Analytic Frameworks for Assessing Dialogic Argumentation in Online Learning Environments
نویسندگان
چکیده
Over the last decade, researchers have developed sophisticated online learning environments to support students engaging in argumentation. This review first considers the range of functionalities incorporated within these online environments. The review then presents five categories of analytic frameworks focusing on (1) formal argumentation structure, (2) normative quality, (3) nature and function of contributions within the dialog, (4) epistemic nature of reasoning, and (5) patterns and trajectories of participant interaction. Example analytic frameworks from each category are presented in detail rich enough to illustrate their nature and structure. This rich detail is intended to facilitate researchers’ identification of possible frameworks to draw upon in developing or adopting analytic methods for their own work. Each framework is applied to a shared segment of student dialog to facilitate this illustration and comparison process. Synthetic discussions of each category consider the frameworks in light of the underlying theoretical perspectives on argumentation, pedagogical goals, and online environmental structures. Ultimately the review underscores the diversity of perspectives represented in this research, the importance of clearly specifying theoretical and environmental commitments throughout the process of developing or adopting an analytic framework, and the role of analytic frameworks in the future development of online learning environments for argumentation.

Designing collaborative learning model in online learning environments
Introduction: Most online learning environments are challenging for the design of collaborative learning activities to achieve high-level learning skills. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to design and validate a model for collaborative learning in online learning environments. Methods: The research method used in this study was a mixed method, including qualitative content analysis and...
متن کاملMultiple Intelligences, Dialogic-Based Portfolio Assessment, and the Enhancement of Higher Order Thinking
Abstract Controversy has not been yet resolved among L2 researchers as how to enhance higher-order thinking skills (HOTSs) in EFL contexts. Responding to the growing need to foster thinking skills, many L2 educators have recently attempted to investigate the effect of diverse teaching strategies on HOTS. Yet, few studies have focused on the infusion of Gardner’s (1999) theory of multiple intell...

متن کاملA Pilot Study in Using Argumentation Frameworks for Online Debates
We describe a pilot study in using argumentation frameworks obtained from an online debate to evaluate positions expressed in the debate. This pilot study aims at exploring the richness of Computational Argumentation methods and techniques for evaluating arguments to reason with the output of Argument Mining. It uses a hand-generated graphical representation of the debate as an intermediate rep...
